Went to meet up with karen, desmond, and linnet at Eunos MRT to bring them on a food trip around Joo Chiat, East Coast (Katong), and Parkway Parade.
First stop was Popiah along Joo Chiat Road near Tembeling rd. hmmm... it seems to me that the standard has dropped, hawkers are so like tat... they dun always maintain their standards once they become popular. Had one popiah, kueh pie tie, and a bowl of beef noodles.
Next stop was Ang Moh Wan Ton Mee, opp Haig Girls School. this is another famous one. Good thing we reached ard 2pm, when there is less crowd, else u could prepare to wait up to 45mins for it to be served. The attracting factor of this wan ton mee is the Chilli i guess, and also the wan ton. The soup is also sweet. Overall, 4.5/5!
Next was photoshooting around Joo Chiat, then walked up Joo Chiat towards the direction of Parkway Parade. Showed them all the various Eateries along Joo Chiat. Brought them to this Dim Sum shop, where the char siew paus are like..... OMG! the char siew is nice, i bought the char siew sou, the crust is crispy, but too bad, its a small serving at $1.10 each.
The fourth stop was Puteri Mas! But in the end, we didnt buy the durian puffs. However, if you guys were to pass by suntec city tasty treatz, u should try this Puteri Mas durian puff, and also the Don cakes and pastry or something, just 2 doors away! its damm nice!! the durian is sooooooo awwww......!!! lol
Then was introduction to the various eateries again along Katong (Crossing over from Joo Chiat), there is this coffee shop at the junction of Joo Chiat and East Coast rd, selling the normal stuff like "Kway Teow Teng" or kway teow noodles, why izzit nice is cos the soup is cooked with pork lard, so its more fragrant, the hokkien mee, and the char kway teow!! super fragrant. Then beside this stall, there is another stall selling tau kwa with all the beansprout and watever.. haha.. din try this one yet la.. just saw only.
Walked down to Katong Laksa, ordered 2 bowls. I didnt like Katong Laksa in the first place, cos i think the taste is no longer there, there is no flavour, overall for me, i gif it 2.5/5. Not worth it to try for $3.50.
And then walked around, explored the various Peranakan culture shops, and as what I thought and always have this thinking, Peranakan culture is beautiful! oh man... glad that im half peranakan! wahahaha..
And then, went to PET SHOPS!! yea... u might guess how come on a food trip go on to pet shops, however from the outside as i was preening into the pet shop, the dogs are soooo attractive, so cute! oh man, how i love dogs man! Small, medium or large, all can!! lol, then can put the dog with ma cat, cats and dogs!
After walking around the lower side of East Coast Road, walked up to the upper side of East Coast Road.
Intro-ed them to the Chin Mee Chin coffee shop, beside the Church of the Holy Family, where it sells nice cupcakes, however it was closed by the time we reached there. Beside the coffee shop was Katong Antique House, all the Peranakan Culture stuff once again.
Crossing the road, I bought one indian donut. It's like those batter with a piece of prawn, deep-fried. However, this one is very crispy, but its very small, @80c each. hmmmm... quite pricey la... this coffee shop is opposite Jago Close.
And after this, went to Parkway Parade, walked ard there, b4 gg over to this cafe selling snow ice. I didnt order any as I thought i would be having dinner soon, never to think that in the end, I did not have the time to have dinner. We slacked in the cafe for 45mins until ard 6.45pm, then I had to rush over to HFC. Thats when we ended our activities for the day. It's tiring man... I wonder how many km we walked. From eunos mrt, to joo chiat, to katong, then to parkway... wow...
hahaha.... kk.... in future if guys interested can arrange another food outing! lol ;)
oh ya, some of the pics i took from Joo Chiat and Katong:
old peranakan tile
peranakan style door
conserved shophouses

wanting to create a "fish-eye" effect
